Do I need a licence?

A state or territory reptile keeper licence is mandatory for all reptile species in Australia. Licence categories vary by state. Check your state wildlife authority for the specific category covering your animals.
Key regulations in Australia
- Only native Australian species may be kept. No exotic reptiles (no ball pythons, chameleons, iguanas)
- All reptiles must be sourced from licenced keepers; records of acquisition must be kept
- Buying or selling without the correct licence category is a criminal offence in all states
International trade (CITES)
International CITES rules don't govern domestic Australian trade, but export of native species is prohibited without a specific CITES and EPBC permit.

How long does listing approval take?
Most listings are approved automatically within minutes. Listings that require manual review (new accounts, unusual species, missing information) are typically reviewed within 24 hours.
Can I list animals from any country?
Herpify supports 5 countries. Select your country when creating a listing. Cross-border listings must comply with both the origin country's export rules and the destination country's import requirements.
