Marking a listing as sold
How to mark a listing as sold, why it matters for your reputation, and your options once an animal is sold.
Why marking sold matters
Marking a listing sold as soon as an animal changes hands is one of the most important things you can do for your reputation as a seller. Buyers who inquire about an animal you've already sold, only to hear "sorry, it went last week", have a negative experience that reflects on you — even though you did nothing wrong. Sold listings also improve the overall marketplace quality for everyone by reducing dead-end clicks.
How to mark a listing as sold
Go to Account → Listings. Find the listing in your active listings. Click the three-dot menu or the "Mark as Sold" button next to it. The listing status updates immediately to SOLD and is removed from active search results. The listing remains visible on your profile under "Past Listings" so buyers can see your selling history.
Marking sold from a message thread
If you finalise a sale inside a message conversation, you'll see a "Mark this listing as sold" prompt at the top of the conversation. This is a convenient shortcut that updates the listing status without leaving the conversation.
What happens to open inquiries
When you mark a listing sold, any other open inquiry threads for that listing remain accessible. Buyers who were in conversation with you will see that the listing is now marked sold. It's good practice to send a brief note to anyone you were in active conversation with to let them know the animal has sold — some of those buyers will be interested in future animals from you.
Other listing status options
Besides SOLD, you can also:
- Archive a listing — removes it from active results without marking it sold (useful if you've decided not to sell or the animal is no longer available for other reasons)
- Pause a listing — temporarily removes it from search without losing its view count or inquiry history (useful during a holiday or while the animal is in quarantine)
- Re-list a sold listing — if a sale falls through, you can revert a sold listing to active status from Account → Listings
