Archiving conversations

How to archive and unarchive conversations in Herpify Messages, and when archiving is the right tool.

What archiving does

Archiving a conversation moves it from your main inbox to a separate "Archived" folder. Archived conversations are not deleted — all messages remain intact and searchable. Archiving is purely an organisational tool: it keeps your inbox clean without losing history. Think of it like moving emails to a folder.

How to archive a conversation

Open Account → Messages. Hover over or open the conversation you want to archive. Click the archive icon (the box with a down arrow) or open the three-dot menu and select "Archive". The conversation disappears from your main inbox and moves to the Archived tab.

How to find archived conversations

In Account → Messages, click the "Archived" tab at the top of the conversation list. All your archived conversations appear here, sorted by most recent message. You can search within archived conversations just as you can in the main inbox.

Unarchiving a conversation

Open the archived conversation and click the three-dot menu → "Unarchive". The conversation returns to your main inbox immediately.

When to archive

Archive a conversation when:

  • A sale is complete and you don't need the thread in your active inbox, but want to keep the record
  • An inquiry didn't lead anywhere (the buyer went cold, the animal sold to someone else)
  • A conversation is from a past listing that is now sold or archived
  • Your inbox has accumulated enough old threads that finding active conversations is difficult

Important note

Don't archive active conversations mid-negotiation. Archiving doesn't stop the other party from messaging you — you'll just find their next message in your Archived folder, which is easy to miss.
