What does captive-bred (CB) mean?
Captive-bred means the animal was hatched or born in captivity from parents that were also in captivity. It does not mean the parents were originally wild-caught. It means the animal itself has never been wild. CB animals are generally healthier, calmer, and better adapted to life in an enclosure than wild-caught specimens.
What is the difference between CB, CH, and WC?
CB (Captive-Bred): hatched or born in captivity. CH (Captive-Hatched): eggs collected from the wild and hatched in captivity. The animal has never been in the wild, but the parents were. WC (Wild-Caught): removed directly from the wild. WC animals carry higher disease loads, are more stressed, and are often poorer pets. For most species, CB is strongly preferred.
